On 15th December 2023, the name John Arshley Mwangangi was called and conferred with a First Class Degree in Journalism and Mass communication during the 8th Kibabii University Graduation Ceremony at the Graduation Square. And has been his customary composure for the last four years he stood as his family and friends soaked in the joy of the moment. Born in Ikanga location, Mutomo Sub-County in Kitui County to Mr. John Francis Mwangangi and Mrs. Jackline Kisilu. Mwangangi made his family proud after not only emerging as the top student in his class but also held the top spot in the whole Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS).
Mwangangi’s academic journey started at Ikanga Primary School between 2006-2014 where he managed to secure a spot at St. Benedict Ikutha Boys School after his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (K.C.P.E). He was happy after his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (K.C.S.E) to join Kibabii University to pursue his undergraduate degree in Journalism and Mass Communication in 2019.
Mwangangi’s four years stay in Kibabii couldn’t have been a success had it not been for the immense support he received from his family a special mention is given to the discipline his grandfather inculcated in him, friends, course-mates and the staff in Journalism and Mass Communication. One attribute that greatly endeared him to Kibabii University was the studying culture among his peers which created an enabling environment that challenged him to strive and acquire more knowledge and be able to be at par with his colleagues. According to him, the quality equipment in the Journalism media labs, seasoned teaching and support staff in the media labs and an updated library all blended to create an enabling environment that brings out the best in any trainee.
He plans to further his studies and grow the knowledge and skills he has acquired from Kibabii University which includes skills in media and journalism, video editing, graphic design, studio technical operations among others. He also boosts of competency in digital marketing and customer relationship management from online courses he pursued parallel to his undergraduate journey.
