KIBABII UNIVERSITY

Message from Dean Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

Welcome to the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) of Kibabii University.

It is such an honour to serve Kibabii University in the position of Dean of this Faculty. The Faculty was established from the Faculty of Education and Social Sciences in January 2022 following phenomenal growth in student numbers and programmes offered under the various departments in the parent faculty that has since transformed to the School of Education. I am inspired and energized by the support from the members of Faculty and students as we work to develop a collective vision for the future of this new Faculty.

The disciplines in Arts and Social Sciences are relevant and of great value to society. The Faculty seeks to make a unique contribution through the programmes offered to provide students with a high degree of self-reflexivity, sense of perspective and purpose, and their holistic formation as a human being. Thus, the Faculty is indispensable to the University’s mission to achieve excellence in generation, transmission and enhancement of new knowledge in Science, Technology and Innovation through quality Teaching, Research, Training, Scholarship, Consultancy and Outreach Programmes. Currently, the Faculty has four departments namely;

  1. English, Literature, Journalism and Mass Communication;
  2. Kiswahili and other African Languages;
  3. Social Sciences
  4. Criminology and Social Work.

The Departments offer various programmes at Certificate, Diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate levels. As a faculty, we aspire to enhance these existing programmes besides developing new ones. In line with the University’s Vision to be a global and dynamic University of excellence in Science, Technology and Innovation, we as a Faculty, are seeking to increase our focus on integration of global and international competencies and experiences.

Locally, we are deepening our community engagement, and intensifying our research and development activities as we align our programmes to the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC). The Faculty is seeking to develop new programmes which are relevant and responsive to students’ needs, interests and the demands for the global job market. We are alive to the growing crop of prospective students, thus the need to develop new courses to increase access for such groups of prospective students whose needs may go beyond graduate-only options. This also applies to our alumni who desire additional graduate credentials and advanced degrees. The Faculty has academic staff who well-endowed with vast teaching, research and consultancy experience that has proved useful in the attainment of our set goals. Therefore, we look forward to making real progress toward fulfilling the mission and vision of the faculty and by and large the University.
