KIBABII UNIVERSITY 

Kibabii University Collaborates with the University of Free State, South Africa

Kibabii University was proud to receive Dr. Elias Malete from the University of Free State, Department of African Languages for a two weeks visit as one way of implementing the MOU between Kibabii University and the University of Free State where Kiswahili is the user department.

Dr. Malete who is a distinguished scholar and a specialist in African Linguistics and Literature arrived in the University on Saturday for a busy two weeks of interaction with the Faculty and Students in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Since his arrival Dr. Malete has been attending Master of Arts in Literature oral defenses and is expected to among others participate in teaching Kiswahili PhD students, facilitate a seminar for all postgraduate students in the Departments of Kiswahili and Other African Languages and English, Literature, Journalism and Mass Communication. He will also participate in activities at the Center for Languages and Cultural Studies and specifically share his wealth of experience in the fine tuning of the short course in Conversational Kiswahili which has been presented to the Deans’ Committee awaiting Senate approval. This programme will be run by Kibabii University at the University of Free State, South Africa. Fourth year undergraduate students of English/Literature will also get an opportunity to interact with our visiting scholar in lectures that have been planned during this visit.

While receiving the visiting scholar on Monday 16th/October/2023 at the Vic-Chancellor’s Office the V.C. Prof. Odeo Ipara who is also a distinguished scholar in Kiswahili expressed his joy at the opportunity offered to Kibabii University to receive such a valuable visitor who brings a wealth of experience to both the Faculty and students in the University. The VC expressed his optimism at what he termed as the onset of a lasting interaction between Kibabii University and the University of Free State.

Dr. Fred Simiyu the Chairman of the Department of Kiswahili and Other African Languages thanked the University for according the department an opportunity to tap into the wealth of knowledge from notable scholars around the world and noted that this is the second visiting scholar who has visited the department and benefitted the Faculty and students.  Dr. Simiyu looks forward to two weeks of a healthy and beneficial interaction with students in Kiswahili and English/Literature and members of staff.
