Kibabii University’s Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences in conjunction with BIOCOSMOS Kenya on Wednesday 5th February 2025 held a Public Lecture for staff and students in Auditorium C. The Public Lecture brought together a number of scientists from Universities in Kenya who are affiliated to the BIOCOSMOS Foundation with the theme of the lecture being “The Question of Intelligent Design: We follow the evidence where it leads”
During his opening remarks and official opening of the Public Lecture, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics and Students Affairs) Prof. Joshua Ogendo thanked the Foundation for choosing Kibabii University for this important interaction. The DVC informed the audience that bio means life and that such interactive sessions are key in knowledge creation, development, dissemination and advancement. He further stated that these public events give an opportunity for scientists in any areas to interact with experts and share valuable knowledge for sustenance of human life.
The Dean, Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences (FASS) Dr. Ben Nyongesa on his part thanked the University Management for giving BIOCOSMOS Kenya an opportunity to share their valuable knowledge with the University Community and reminded the participants that it is in such intellectual forums that theories and models and developed, interrogated and knowledge disseminated.
The BIOCOSMOS panelists included Dr. Richard Ochieng’, Dr. Morris Mwatu, Fr. Martin Tanui, Dr. Lencer Ndede and Dr. Ben Mudogo. BIOCOSMOS is an association of scientists and members all over the world with a presence in a number of countries in Africa and over twenty four institutions of higher learning and other academic institutions in Kenya. In presenting their theory of Intelligence Design, the panelists had an opportunity to interact with participants in thoughts proving academic discourse.
According to the panelists, Intelligence Design is a scientific theory that is based on evidence from nature and consistent with everyday logic. The theory believes that the universe is orderly, not chaotic and not a random process but rather a result of intelligence design.
“Everything as it is was purposefully intended to be as it is and that this was not as a result of creation, evolution or any other ‘accident’ but rather a carefully thought plan. By who? How? We might not be able to know,” remarked one of the panelists.
While closing the Public Lecture, the Dean, FASS Dr. Ben Nyongesa thanked the panelists for the exciting experience they had taken the attendants through and promised to continue collaborating with them including forming a club for our students to benefit from their knowledge and experiences. He also thanked them for donating books to participants and the University which were going to be resourceful in knowledge development.
