Lecturers and students from the associations of Criminology and Social Work on 10th March 2022 had an academic trip that saw them visiting various establishments in Kisumu City which are key in their various class programmes.
The occasion saw them visiting the Government Chemist which has various sections of Forensic which includes Toxicology, Criminalistics, Biology and Serology which are key in the process of investigating crimes and apprehension of criminals. This gave the students an opportunity to interact with the functions of the at least five different Forensics sections in the chemist.
The students also had an opportunity of visiting the Kisumu Children’s Remand Home which is a facility that houses juveniles who are in conflict with the law and also those in need of care and protection and who are going through the Juvenile Justice System. This visit gave the students of both Criminology and Social Work programmes an opportunity to understand the major causes of offending among juveniles and how the Justice System protects and rehabilitates these minors.
The students were accompanied by Dr. Mark Leting – Lecturer, Social Work and Association Patron, Mr. Sebastian Wang’ombe – Lecturer, Criminology and Mr. Patrick Mengo – Criminology Forensic Lab Technologist.
