Everything that has a beginning surely has an end. Cynthia Jepkoech University’s journey came to a victorious end on 3rd March 2023, as she was conferred with a First Class Honors Degree in Criminology in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, during Kibabii University’s 7th Graduation Ceremony. Cynthia, a First born daughter to Mr. Samuel Kipchumba and Ms. Jennifer Kiprono comes from Elgeyo-Marakwet county, Keiyo South constituency in Fifty village.
Cynthia’s academic journey started in 2006 at Kipchiloi Primary School to 2013 where she did her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (K.C.P.E) and scored 306 Marks. This led her to Plateau Girls Secondary School for her secondary level education where she scored a mean grade of C+. The good performance enabled her qualify for University level education here at Kibabii University in 2018.
While in campus attending lectures, Christian Union Seminars and discussions, visiting children’s homes and taking part in cultural week activities are some of the worthwhile moments memorable to Cynthia. However no one has ever become a victor without facing challenges and overcoming them. As she pursued her education financial constraints was one of the challenges she faced but overcame.
As an example to the students of Kibabii at large but more so the female students, Cynthia advices the female students to check their companies and avoid friends who can make them go astray. She urges students to be focused and make their priorities right including studying smart as this is what brought them to Kibabii University. She warns them that Drugs and substance abuse brings more harm than good to the lives of students.
Currently, as a fresh graduate, Cynthia is looking for job opportunities in her area of specialization. She also has plans to further her studies in Masters in Criminology at Kibabii University. Cynthia congratulates the department of Social Work and Criminology as the best Department here in Kibabii University because of the supportive lecturers and fellow course mates. She recommends that the University equips the forensic laboratory to enable students have practical lessons especially in units that require practical classes such as forensic science.
